Professor of History (Ph.D. Indiana University, 1983; M.A. Indiana University 1976; B.A. Mount Holyoke College, 1975).
My area of specialization is Russia and Eastern Europe, and my own research concentrates on the pre-modern period (9th–18th centuries). I am particularly interested in gender, sexuality, popular culture, Orthodox Christianity, and medicine, focusing on Russia and the Balkans, and I happily supervise graduate students whose interests extend into other areas.
